I+D+i, a strong commintment for us
At La Abuela Carmen we firmly believe in active politics of R+D+I to keep on growing. Innovation in the production process and development of new products is our hallmark, translated in various mentions and institutional recognitions and from the sector. To keep on having the consumers support and to consolidate our presence on the international markets, we look permanently for new nuances and flavors in our products, adapting them to the current demands of the consumers and new marketplaces. As a result of this concern black garlic was born, which consolidates us today as the first European producer and, shortly afterwards, the black onion, an exclusive product of La Abuela Carmen, arising from the research of our company with the Institute of Research and Agrarian and Fishing Training of Andalusia (Ifapa).
Black Garlic and Black Onion, two gourmet products strengthened in the best restaurants, getting excellent gastronomic reviews, and in the recipes of thousands of hearths.
Our R & D & I area focuses on the production process and development of new products through the development of new techniques and processes of cultivation and food handling. In addition, we seek the provision of air conditioning systems that allow us to break the seasonality and supply our customers continuously throughout the year. The garlic sowing, according to the varieties, takes place between October and December and the harvesting in mid-May, so that our refrigerating facilities suppose a value added to obtain a homogeneous distribution twelve months of the year.
We export: from Andalusia to the five continents
Growth has been a constant in our trajectory in the cultivation, production and handling of garlic, which has recently been added black onion. Today, around 80% of our turnover comes from exports, mainly to Europe, the United States, South America, Australia, North Africa and Japan, international markets to which go the products that we collect in our 400 hectares of crop, to which are added another 200 hectares that contribute our associated farmers.
In Spain, our products are on the shelves of large supermarkets such as Mercadona or Lidl, and in the hundreds of gourmet and gastronomic shops. In addition, in our own online store you can also buy our products comfortably and without leaving home.
